to our blog for May 2022. This time it's all about the passenger information system. You can find out what this is and what functions it has in today's blog. Unfortunately, the blog for April has failed because our big interlocking test fell into the water. But there will be more information about this soon.
PIS System
The PIS System is a specially developed web application for managing and displaying train lines. With the possibility of displaying in Minecraft via suitable mods (such as OpenComputers).
Functionality
So far, it is possible to search for lines and stations and to display information about them. The web page can be displayed in dark or light mode (depends on the setting in the operating system). In addition, there is already a version for mobile devices.
Line display
The line display contains the stations and their track and metadata and can display delays and information boxes. In addition, details can be displayed that the passenger usually does not like to see, such as track relocations, station-specific delays and station cancellations. If the train is already running, a timeline is displayed next to the departure times, which shows where the train is currently located.
Station display
So far, the station display only contains the number of platforms in terms of metadata, but further metadata is to be added. In addition, the next departures that run through this station are displayed.
Api
The information can be displayed and modified via an API. In the future, Tfs and FDLs will have the possibility to enter lines via the API and to manage their information. Normal users have the possibility to view the raw data of different objects.
State of development – What already exists, what still needs to be done?
Lines and stations get more metadata. In addition, the whole system still has to be made secure, as every API request has so far been unencrypted and without API key. If this has been done, an editor for TFs and FDLs will be created with which it should be possible to add new lines and change data of the line.
